One Exercise to Improve Your Life

What if there was one exercise you could include in your workouts that would vastly improve your life? Sounds pretty good right? Thing is, you’ve probably done this exercise before, or at least heard of it.

The one exercise that I feel could have the biggest impact on your life is the deadlift. An object starts on the ground, be it a barbell, a kettlebell, sandbag, or anything else you can grip, and you simply pick it up to waist level. It’s the most functional exercise you can imagine, and one that translates to a slew of benefits.

So how do you benefit by including deadlifts in your workout program? The most prominent benefit is that it will lead to significant strength gains. You’re able to pick up a large amount of weight. The length proportions of the lower extremities create mechanical levers designed for just this type of movement.

You’ll also call on a large number of muscles to help in lifting whatever it is off of the ground. That means an increase in the number of calories burned, not just during the workout, but after it as well. You call upon your hamstrings, your glutes, a large number of muscles in your back, the rear of your shoulders, and of course your grip.

Finally, deadlifting will translate to ease in other movements you perform regularly throughout the day. That bag of groceries won’t fell nearly as heavy, picking kids up becomes easy, yardwork becomes more enjoyable because you’re not over-stressing your back.

If deadlifts aren’t a part of your current program, I highly recommend you begin including them. As with all exercises, proper form and technique are vital. Keep your back straight, lift with your legs, and in now time you’ll be reaping the benefits of one of the best all-around exercises.
