Change Starts Now

Many people are afraid of change. They avoid it like the plague, opting instead to forever live in their bubble of comfort. We all love that bubble. Why? Because it involves all the things that we’re familiar and comfortable with. The easy life of knowing exactly what to expect, never really pushing yourself to new levels.


Earlier this year my wife and I moved to Austin. It’s something that we have wanted to do, but it came about much earlier than expected. The planning for the perfect time to move didn’t happen. We left the comforts of a big house, established friendships, and familiarity with everyday routines for something completely new. It can scare the shit out of you. Why? Again, we go back to moving outside the bubble of familiarity and comfort.


Just because change can be scary doesn’t mean that you should completely eradicate it from your life. It’s normal human behavior to have that feeling of nervousness and apprehension. But you cannot let that fear paralyze you from going after what you want. At some point you’ll have to make the jump into the deep, dark sea.


What you’ll often find is that the jump is not as bad as you made it out to be. You’ll find that new doors open and opportunities come up that you might not have thought of in your state of constant fear. Change is a good thing, but you’ll never experience it if you remain in your bubble of comfort. The good thing is that change can start right now. You can make a conscious decision right this instant to make a change. It doesn’t have to be something as big as a move to a new city either. Start with a small change, something you’ve been putting off but that you know will benefit you in the long run. So what are you waiting for?
